Set sail for the Maldives this summer
The Maldives has become one of the hottest cruise destinations in recent times, and for good reason.
Situated in the Indian Ocean to the south-west of India, the archipelago attracts glorious weather and the ocean there is as blue and clear as it gets.
Out of 1,192 islands, only 200 are inhabited and 80 have tourist resorts, offering visitors the chance to try out exciting water sports, such as snorkelling, diving and swimming.
You can have a go at all these and more on a Seafarer cruise, choosing from either a seven or ten-day trip of the main islands.
As part of the Dream Yachts Catamaran Sailing Cruise, when you're not out and about exploring the various islands, you'll benefit from a first-class experience onboard the Dream 60 and Nautitech 82 craft.
These are sailing catamarans – very different from the conventional cruise experience – and they boast just 12 cabins each.
During the evenings, after a day spent on your feet, relax with a cocktail and watch the sun set over the coast while you relish the welcome breeze from the ocean. Tuck into high-end food and unwind in a spacious saloon with the other guests.
As for the islands you'll be taken to, the selection couldn't be better or more varied. Highlights include a trip to the uninhabited and very tropical Kanifushi Island; kayaking and snorkelling in the lagoon on Goidhoo; browsing the boutiques in the town of Eydhafushi on Hulhudhoo; and admiring the marine life on Hulhumale.
For sun-worshippers who love nothing more than lounging on the beach and roaming through sleepy coastal villages, the Maldives is the perfect holiday destination.
By exploring the archipelago on a cruise, tourists can get the feel of not just one island, but several, and this will make the experience so much more enriching. Plus, cruises are the most sociable holidays, and you're bound to get chatting to the other passengers.
The locals in the Maldives have a reputation for being very friendly, and will welcome you into their picturesque restaurants and cafes with open arms.

Cruising around the Caribbean
Strung out in the far west of the Atlantic Ocean are the Caribbean Islands, famed for their year-round fine weather, exotic culture and fantastic collection of beaches.
Once thought of as a prime holiday destination among honeymooners and retirees, the Caribbean is now popular among travellers of all ages looking for a relaxing, sun-drenched getaway.
The archipelago comprises a whopping 700 islands altogether, making going on a cruise the best way to see as much of the Caribbean as possible.
Island hopping allows you to get a feel for each individual place, and there’s nothing like being constantly on the move to make you feel like you’re on a real adventure.
That said, the great thing about cruises is that they also give you the chance to unwind at the end of a long day of exploring. Watch the sun set over the coast as you sip fine wine and enjoy a gourmet dinner with your special someone.
Seafarer’s Leeward Islands itinerary is ideal for those who want to visit a number of Caribbean islands without having to organise the transport themselves.
As far as cruise experiences go, they don’t get much better than sitting aboard a majestic Tall Ship in full sail, carving its way through the waves. Particularly as the vessel is capable of showing you every centimetre of the characteristic coastline – something a full-sized cruiser simply can’t do.
Among the highlights are trips to Dominica, where you can hike through steamy rainforests; Antigua, celebrated for its vast range of coastal offerings and charming pubs; and St Barts, which is great for beaches and shopping.
You’ll also discover the wonders of Nevis, St Maartens, Deshaies Guadeloupe and Terre-de-Haut while enjoying the many comforts provided by the team aboard the Caribbean Star Clipper.
Cruises are the perfect way to cover a large area without fuss, which is ideal for those who want to explore vast regions like the Caribbean.
You’ll also rub shoulders with like-minded people looking for a similar experience, and there’s even the chance you’ll make friends for life. That’s not to mention the holiday glow you’ll return with – during the summer months, temperatures tend to hit 30 degrees C and above.

London Cruise Show to host Seafarer
All aboard the London Cruise Show. This spectacular event is returning to the UK capital for the weekend of March 22nd and will be playing host to an enormous selection of travel-related fun.
Seafarers will, of course, be in attendance at stand D38 where cruise-goers can get their hands on a number of exciting promotions and discounts that should help them make up their minds about their summer holiday.
The festival, famed for being the largest of its kind across Europe, allows attendees to gather impartial advice from industry specialists over a number of talks, hosted over no less than four separate theatres.
Three of the venues will have dedicated purposes, with one hosting the experts, one the cruise liners and one especially given over to the small liner companies.
Cruise enthusiasts will have the chance to discover new ships and developments throughout the sector, while all attendees will benefit from a number of show-only offers, upgrades and competitions.
However, the overall aim of the event is to open your eyes to different cruise destinations, vessels and experiences that you might never have considered if you hadn’t thought to broaden your horizons.
In particular, there will be an entire section dedicated to small ship cruising, where Seafarer Cruises will of course be in attendance. Here, attendees can catch a glimpse of the opulence, luxury and outstanding personal service they can expect when sailing on this type of holiday.
Organisers are so far keeping the names of celebrity attendees tightly under wraps to heighten the excitement, but a wealth of independent travel reviewers will be there, including Geographical Magazine, Cruise Critic and Berlitz Publishing.
The event runs from March 22nd until the 23rd at London’s Olympia venue on Hammersmith Road. Doors open at 10am on both Saturday and Sunday and advance ticket prices are £6, rising to £10 on the day.
So come along and find yourself inspired for your next cruise holiday. This very special event is not to be missed for those who love to travel the globe.
Cruise focus: Central Dalmatian coast
Few locations in the world are as awe-strikingly beautiful as the Central Dalmatian islands and the coastline of Croatia. Encompassing the breathtaking Skradinski Buk, the stunning historic town of Sibenik and the characteristic streets of Trogir, there really is only one way to experience this location – by cruise ship.
Specifically, the smaller vessels offered by Seafarer allow access to a number of ports dotted around the Dalmatian islands and the Croatian coast that simply cannot accommodate large cruise ships. These allow not only for the opportunity to visit new and exciting destinations, but also for the chance to swim in the distinct rocky bays that make this part of the world so instantly identifiable.
Then there are the unique atmospheres of the charming places you'll be able to explore. How about enjoying the locally famous wine Barbic in one of the small cafes of Rogoznica? Or exploring all that is left of the Roman Forum and the Church of St Donatus in the city of Zadar? There is an incredible degree of culture here to be discovered, and it's all so very different to anything else you'll find in Europe.
Now that you can be sure of being suitably entertained during your holiday, what about that other all-important aspect – that of the weather? The Seafarer Central Dalmatian Cruise runs from April to October and you can expect it to be warm and sunny throughout the trip – perfect for those dips around the coastline.
That just leaves one element – that of transportation. After flying out to Split, you'll be escorted to your cabin aboard one of the traditional motor sailers of the Katarina Line fleet. While these carry just 24 – 36 passengers each, you can expect a spacious sun lounge, a saloon with dining area and plenty of room in your cabin.
So if you want a holiday that's big on things to do, great weather and a personal touch, this is the cruise for you.
The attractions of cruising Italy
Italy has something of a reputation for being the perfect European holiday destination. Boasting culture, cuisine and wonderful people aplenty, it's all about vibrant cities and charming villages with this country. But there's another aspect that makes it an unbeatable place to holiday – it's just plain fun to be there.
So why, then, should the casual traveller consider cruising this spectacular location? For a start, there is the opportunity to see a fair chunk of Italy within a relatively short period of time. The Seafarer Treasures of Italy and Malta trip, for example, features ten breathtaking destinations in as many days, and with a cruise, it's only necessary to perform the unpacking ritual once at either end of the holiday. You'll also have the pleasure of sailing the 32-cabin deluxe mega-yacht Variety Voyager, an incredible vessel with an extraordinary amount of deck space, ultra comfortable cabins and unobstructed views of the sea wherever you are on the ship.
Moreover, travelling on a smaller vessel, you'll get to experience a number of lesser-known destinations away from the tourist throngs of Rome and Venice. These places, which include Capri, Taormina and Cefalu, are incapable of hosting the giant ships offered by many cruise companies. So if you want to witness the constantly active volcano of Stromboli, and the archaeological wonder of Syracuse both in one holiday, this is definitely the cruise for you.
However, if you have your heart set on this magnificent country but are unsure if this is the journey you want to take, there are a number of other options. The Western Mediterranean itinerary, for example, features visits to perhaps the most famous Italian cities, Rome and Venice, as well as a stop-off in Sicily. It's a treat being in the cities, but also being aboard the splendid tall ship Royal Clipper, which rewards you with a comfortable sailing experience as well as a friendly informal atmosphere.
When it comes to cruising Italy, you've got more than enough choice available. The only difficulty you have is in deciding which option to take.
Dreaming of the exotic
When it comes to cruises, European destinations are immensely popular with Brits, thanks to their proximity and the sheer variety on offer. However, never feel as though you are limited to the likes of Italy, Greece and the Rhine. While these destinations have their merit, there is no reason why you shouldn't jet off to experience something completely otherworldly.
Visiting a culture that is totally alien to one's own is a rare and thrilling treat – a journey to be treasured. Everything from viewing the touristic attractions to going into a shop and buying chewing gum becomes an adventure. Travelling in luxurious surroundings aboard a small cruise vessel is the perfect way of experiencing a completely foreign culture. With less time spent at sea and more spent exploring these exotic surroundings, there really is no downside. If you're seeking inspiration, why not consider one of the destinations below?
Thailand
Fusing the modern with the traditional, Thailand offers some of the most diverse experiences you could ever hope to achieve on a cruise holiday. After setting out from Phuket in your cabin on board the fully-crewed sailing catamaran – perfect for exploring the nooks and crannies of the coastline – you'll have to chance to snorkel above the vibrant life of Koh Kai's coral reef, enjoy a sunbathing opportunity at Phi Phi Leh's Maya Bay and swim in an aquarium on Koh Dam. And that's just the highlights of the first four days.
Seychelles
Hopping from island to island of the Seychelles aboard a luxurious 25-cabin mega-yacht, you'll witness a paradise just like the one you're envisaging in your head right now. Azure blue waters lapping gently at perfect white beaches. A crop of palm trees and a forest bursting with food, nuts and all manner of creature. And above all, a completely relaxed way of life that you're more than welcome to take part in.
West Africa
It has been said that it's impossible to visit West Africa for a relaxing holiday, such is the culture shock that awaits you. However, by taking a trip aboard a 25-cabin mega-yacht, you can experience the luxury of a magnificent holiday while also enjoying the otherworldly charms of this extraordinary destination. From the smell of the spices to the stunning beaches, you'll be entranced.
The Bahamas
Sporting 29 islands, 661 cays and around 2,400 islets, the Bahamas is a dream for the small cruise passenger. There is much to see from the deck of your catamaran as you bound from Marsh Harbour to Great Guana Cay, Man o' War and Hope Town before returning via Abaco and Matt Lowes Cay. If the names sound exotic, that's nothing compared to how these places actually look, with their sparkling seascapes and unique rocky crags – topped, of course, by a gorgeous covering of trees.
Maldives
Thriving coral reefs. Magnificent palm trees. Dolphins frolicking in the shallows. Such are the images that come to mind whenever someone mentions the Maldives, which sport some of the most gorgeous coastlines on the planet. The catamaran is your choice of vehicle here – you'll have the opportunity to truly explore all of the little islets that make up this holiday destination, thanks to the vessel's shallower drafts.
Tahiti
The Pacific's Polynesian islands are sure to rank as one of the most popular fixtures when it comes to bucket lists throughout the world. Featuring the opportunity to visit Bora Bora, Tuamotu and Société among others, this is a chance to go somewhere completely unique, with experiences including swimming with stingrays and various sharks, guided tours of vanilla plantations and kayak rides. A destination for the adventurous, and one that is best undertaken aboard a fully-crewed catamaran.

Castles of the River Rhine
Europe's rivers have frequently been hailed as some of the most jaw-dropping waterways in the world, and none more so than the river Rhine. Snaking its way around the southeastern Swiss Alps before flowing through Germany on its way to the North Sea in the Netherlands, the 12th longest river in Europe has a lot to offer for river cruisers.
Perhaps one of the most commonly cited reasons for travelling the Rhine is its exquisite collection of castles. The dozens of old fortresses that pepper the Rhine Gorge – primarily from Koblenz all the way down to Bingen – show off the turbulent history of the area and demonstrate how architectural preferences have changed dramatically down the years.
Towering structures to keep an eye out for include Fortress Ehrenbreitstein, which has withheld so many attacks that it has acquired the name Guard at the Rhine. Travelling on the Classic Rhine cruise with Seafarer, you'll even get to explore the iconic Reichsburg castle, towering as it does over the town of Cochem. Further along, crane your necks for a good view of Schonburg Castle, considered by Ferdinand Freiligrath to be "the most beautiful refuge of the Rhine romanticism".
If the history, architecture and sheer imposingness of these incredible structures isn't enough to grab the attention of the casual cruise goer, the incredible sight of these stunning constructs at sundown should get the cameras clicking.
As if that wasn't enough, cruise goers will be lucky enough to experience the Rhine from the decks of Serenade I, which deservedly has quite a following in the UK thanks to her four-star status and reasonable pricing.
The only way to witness the Rhine in all its glory is on a cruise, as you'll find yourself in the very heart of the Rhine Gorge at the best possible moment to take photographs of its beautiful castles. Be sure to book the most personal experience you can and opt for Seafearer's Classic Rhine itinerary for luxury, class and a trip to remember.
