Danube to the Black Sea Itinerary

Donau Melk

DAY 1

Passau- Today we embark ship in Passau, where the Danube, Inn and Ilz Rivers meet. You can relax on board as we sail towards Vienna, cruising through the beautiful Wachau Valley.

DAY 2

Vienna- Enjoy a day experiencing the delights of Vienna. Grand palaces, magnificent squares and grand monuments are just some of the features of this beautiful city. You can also join our trip to Schönbrunn Palace, which will take you on journey through time. Later in the evening we cruise towards Kalocsa.

DAY 3

Kalocsa- We arrive in Kalocsa this afternoon, a small village in the Great Plains of Hungary which is well known for paprika and embroidery. Our optional guided tour points out the highlights before we continue cruising towards Serbia.

DAY 4

Belgrade – Belgrade lies at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers and there will be plenty of time to explore the Serbian capital. You can begin by joining our optional city tour, which takes in the Belgrade Fortress and St Sava Church, the biggest Eastern Orthodox church in the world. . Later this evening we cruise towards Romania/Bulgaria.

DAY 5

Iron Gate – From Koblenz you can join us on an excursion commencing with a city tour through Koblenz before taking in the beautiful scenery of the picturesque Lahn valley en route to the delightful spa town of Bad Ems. Here you can enjoy a short walking tour to visit the fascinating mineral springs and the impressive casino. After lunch we leave for Cologne where will arrive in the late afternoon. After dinner free time to discover Cologne. Drink a typical ‘Kölsch’ beer or take a stroll through the narrow, cobble-stoned alleys will of the old down of the city.

DAY 6

Rousse – From Ruse you can join our optional excursion to see the rock-hewn churches of Ivanovo, one of which we visit. After a short city tour through the centre of Ruse we return to our ship before cruising towards Cernavoda.

DAY 7

Cernavoda / The Black Sea – Our included coach excursion takes you to Constanta, the main port of Romania, where we enjoy a city tour before visiting Mamaia, the most famous seaside resort in Romania. Here we stop for lunch along with the chance to paddle in the Black Sea.

DAY 8

Giurgui / Bucharest – Today’s optional excursion visits the Romanian capital of Bucharest, where you can admire many landmarks including Parliament Palace, the second largest parliament building in the world after the US Pentagon, and the beautiful Romanian Atheneum. We return to our ship in the city of Turnu Magaurele and cruise towards the Iron Gate Gorge.

Day 9

Iron Gate – We enjoy another full day cruising through the spectacular Iron Gate Gorge.

Day 10

Novi Sad – Novi Sad is the second largest city in Serbia after Belgrade. Upon arrival you can join an optional guided tour taking in many highlights. The most recognised landmark is the Petrovaradin Fortress, which dominates the city from the banks of the Danube. Later, we’ll cruise towards Hungary.

Day 11

Mohacs – We berth just across the Hungarian border in Mohács. In the afternoon you can join our optional excursion to Pécs, a beautiful city where you will see the cathedral and the Turkish mosque. Later this evening we cruise towards Budapest.

Day 12

Budapest – The Hungarian capital of Budapest is said to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Join our optional tour to see the highlights of both sides of the city – traditional ‘Buda’ and the more cosmopolitan ‘Pest’. In the afternoon we offer another optional excursion to see a live Puszta Horse Show. Later today we cruise towards Bratislava.

Day 13

Bratislava – The historic city of Bratislava is the capital of Slovakia. Join our optional guided tour to take in the main sights and experience the rich culture in and around the old town before our ship cruises towards Melk.

Day 14

Melk – Join our optional excursion visiting the Benedictine Abbey, one of the most famous monastic houses in Austria. You can then relax on board for the remainder of the day as we cruise to our final port of call.

Day 15

Passau – Today we are back in Passau where we disembark and say goodbye to the friendly crew of the Select Explorer.
